David Sims – Metropolitan Funeral

David Sims, son of the late Willie Sims and Lela Houston was born July 4, 1940, in Jackson, South Carolina. At the age of 2 years old he moved to Augusta, Georgia where he attended the public schools of Richmond County and was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School. Where he was an outstanding student and basketball player. Upon graduation, David moved to Syracuse, New York where he met and fell in love with his life partner, Viola Marie Smith.  The couple had four children, Toni Marie (deceased), Dyrol David (deceased), Tracy Anne (Chesapeake, VA) and Michelle Lee (Charlotte, NC).

David Sims had a 30-year career with his employer, Niagara Mohawk and retired as a Foreman of the Line Department. He moved to Virginia to enjoy his retirement life enjoying fishing, golfing and spending quality time with his family.

David was called home on August 3, 2022 at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and siblings, William “Cat” Sims, Dorothy Burke and Janie Redfearn.  He has left behind his brother, Major Sims Sr., his partner, Viola Smith and two daughters, Tracy and Michelle.

He will be deeply missed by his grandkids, Anthony Alex Carter (Camilla) of Franklin, VA, Tracee Mychelle Jennings (Syracuse, NY) and John William Seymore (Charlotte, NC), and great grand kids, Anthony, Makenzie, Anaya, Mya and by a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to acknowledge David’s faithful and long-time friend Bill Boyd, who was his neighbor, best friend and golf partner.
